This is my very first time blogging in general. I have no idea what blogging entails-should I write as if I’m addressing readers or write as if I’m writing in a journal? I also don’t know how to start – So for some inspiration, I consulted DICTIONARY.COM!
According to Dictionary.com, “blog” is defined as “to write entries in, add material to, or maintain a weblog.”
??ehh, I guess.
So- Queens College decided to be creative this year and some of us started school on Thursday- I have Thursdays off so I started on Friday! The last time I had class on a Friday was during my first semester as a freshman. I’m taking a Political Science course that deals with race and politics with Professor Reichl- who is very knowledgeable on the subject. I took a seminar class with him last semester on NYC politics and we briefly touched upon race and the mayoral elections in the city. I like controversial subjects, so hopefully this class won’t disappoint. I was also glad to see some familiar faces, which I guess happens when you get to know the students in your major and it doesn’t hurt that the class starts in the afternoon (yay for sleeping in!).
After class, I had a meeting to attend on the Haiti relief effort going on campus. It’s amazing to see how many clubs are coming together at Queens College to fundraise and collect clothes for the people of Haiti. It’s unfortunate the events that have occurred and my prayers go out to the people of Haiti as well as to any student at QC who has been affected by this.
There is a lot of planning going on for the fundraiser which also includes a CUNY-wide effort/gathering! It’s nice to see students dedicated to a cause! OFF THE RECORD (I hope I don’t get in trouble) I THINK the name of the whole effort at Queens College will be “From QC to Haiti; Let Hope Ring.” So some of the things you can do to help out is by donating bottled water and other non-perishable foods. For those who want to make monetary donations-Queens College will be selling bracelets (similar to those Lance Armstrong rubber bracelets). I’ll keep you all posted on this matter.
I probably surpassed “blogging” limit. LAST WORDS- I’m kind of excited for the semester to start but I know that feeling will wear off soon. I’m taking 3 classes for my double major (Soc and Poli Sci) and an Econ course because I felt the need to step outside the box. Rather, I think I stepped into the outline of the box because Economics is also considered a social science-I was never really good at math! Adios!
