Trying to fix my sleeping schedule (which was out of control due to the 6 week vacation period) while trying to wake up for an 8 am class is a very very good recipe for disaster. My brain was totally not working its cells to the fullest but hopefully this weekend I’ll recuperate and get this semester on a roll! Judging by my first week of classes, my eyes are going to have to prepare for A LOT of reading and I can already foretell that I’m going to make friends with the computer lab-I’ll be printing materials for class. E-reserve and Blackboard seem to have become pretty popular for the particular classes I’m taking.
I’m currently trying to kick my habit of procrastination and I’m open to any remedies or procrastination anonymous groups. I wonder if it’s a serious condition or if it’s a phase all college students go through? I mean, I think I have it pretty bad-I’ve done everything from writing to-do lists to rewarding myself when I complete certain assignments (now I just reward myself regardless). For example, I’m blogging instead of reading a 30 page article on why women have taken over the higher education system. I shall let my readers know the answer once I read the piece-but it’s very cool to know that there are more women in school than men. If only pay were equal…
The class that assigned this article is a sociology seminar on the inequalities of the higher education system. I like seminar settings because it’s easier for the professor to get to know his/her students and vice versa. Plus it doesn’t hurt to ask for a recommendation when the professor truly knows what you are capable of and it’s evident in those small settings. The topic for the seminar is also interesting- I’ve learned that the idea of a “well-rounded” student (one who plays sports and volunteers in the community while maintaining a decent high school average) comes from this plan or movement back in the old days to keep non-white students out of the universities-specifically Columbia U. Crazy stuff.
On the other hand, that Economics class is going to cause me some headaches-since when is there math involved in theories on price and demand!? And APLIA? Send help soon. And send help to the weathermen, WHERE’S MY SNOW!?
Peace.
