I was curious when Queens College launched its website, and how it looked at first. Then I began searching and googling about QC’s website history. Interestingly enough, I did find some fascinating information. I guess I’m very easily fascinated but just a little background information about Queens College website would definitely be interesting to any Queens College student.
Queens College launched its website in late 1997 in its 60th anniversary. At the time I was only 10 years old, and of course I was not a college student at the time! The amazing part is not when QC launched its website, rather how it looked like at first. I was shocked when I saw how simple it was. It basically had nothing. If you haven’t noticed by now, the picture below is a snapshot of the QC’s initial website, so see for yourself.

Queens College’s initial website does not look anything like a well known educational institution by today’s standards, but I guess in 1997 when the Internet was still a young phenomenon, it wasn’t the template, the design, or the weight of the website that was important, rather just having the website, and being on the web was good enough. Not to mention that in 1997 the majority of people did not have access to the Internet, and those who did of course were using dial up, (the method of connection that many now are NOT even familiar with) and with dial up viewing heavy website was not a convenient task.
