I just thought I’d briefly mention the HUGE STORM THAT HAPPENED LAST THURSDAY!!!!!!!!!!!!! WHAAAAAAAT?!
I know, right? How scary was THAT?! Sorry, I just can’t seem to contain myself when I talk about this…. I was in the Fitz Gym when it happened. The huge garage-like door in the section of the gym wall was open to send some nice breezes through the always-stuffy gym. The coach even walked into the gym, did a one of those “Caribbean lady moves” and exclaimed, “It’s a nice breeze!” in joy. While we were concentrated on our practice to prepare for our weekend tournament in Lowell/Bentley, MA, we were stunned when all of the sudden the “nice little breeze” had turned into a rainstorm. The rain covered the gym floor, and our assistant coach went to close the “window.” (It looks like a garage door literally in the middle of the wall in the 3rd floor of the Fitz Gym if you know what I’m talking about….) Anyway, as we laughed at the whole situation, two minutes later, we were no longer laughing as the huge gust of wind (which just happened to be a TORNADO!!!!!) was visible from the windows and ceiling of the gym. We were surrounded by sounds of the gusts of wind everywhere… and then the lights. went. out.
I wish I had my video camera with me… but of course, I didn’t. When do I ever have my camera when I really need it? never.
So , as screaming tennis players came up the staircase into the gym and all the volleyball girls reached into their bags to text whoever they were texting (whoever it is they’re always texting…), I couldn’t hear myself think. Our coach was no longer dancing to the breeze, and our assistant coach had left the gym to check out the situation.
Yeah. This is the indoor tennis court. Or what was left of it. I was watching from the third floor of the Fitz Gym window as tennis players, trainers, and coaches ran in and out to retrieve equipment, bags, etc.
This was around my neighborhood in Fresh Meadows, just off the L.I.E. around 164th St. It looked pretty bad….
This below is a picture of the tree in front of the TOZT cafe on Kissena (which many of you go, I’m guessing, for lunch? I don’t because I’m a cheap Chinese and prepare lunch boxes. But that place always smells amazing. AND, it’s next to a bubble tea place…. uh… YES!!!!!)
Here is the article about the woman who died from the incident.
