The Process of Creating a Dope Record

Alright I’m not going to lie I have been slacking a little bit on blogging and it’s because I have been working on a lot of new music and these classes have been picking up. I know everyone reading this is feeling the same way. The first few weeks were a cake walk and now forget about it.  I have projects after projects due and i’m working on musical projects like crazy.  But since it’s the weekend why talk about school and class.  Let’s get more into the interesting aspect of my life- my music.  This past week I finally finished this record which has been in the works for months.

It is actually going to be one of my first records on itunes titled “Take a Walk” featuring Ali Brustofski.  A lot of people may think it’s a 1, 2, 3 process to record music.  Most of the time it is relatively fast however working on a record with another artist from another state could get a little difficult sometimes and it’s not because of work ethic on either of our parts.  It is because a lot goes into it.  I first have to record my part and send it over for her to hear to see if she likes the song.  Then when she likes it I have to write and record reference vocals of me singing the part for her so she knows what the melody is and how to sing it.

Keep in mind I can’t sing at all, so it is kind of difficult trying to do it the correct way. Ha-ha. After I send the reference of the song to her, it takes some time to practice and come up with a few ideas of her own to make the song even better, such as harmonies and riffing, etc.  After that she goes and records a reference of her singing on the hook to send back to me to see if I have any ideas different or if I like the way it sounds.  Finally after I approve and say I like the idea, she then goes back into the studio and records the song perfectly and has her producer send the whole session over to my producer to mix and master down and put the final touches on the song. After all of this we have made a dope record.

So whenever this record comes out which is probably going to be in one month I will definitely have a blog about it informing everyone abut it.  Until then though you can hear some of my music on www.reverbnation.com/iambize and videos on www.youtube.com/dabiznezzztv .  You can check Ali’s music out on www.reverbnation.com/alibrustofski
