Let’s go Festivals!

I hope everyone’s 10/10/10 was awesome. Not only was it a 3 day weekend, there were also a lot of events that were occurring. I only went to a few and I’m going to tell you all about them. After work on Thursday night, I hung around and participated in some local events around the college. I arrived around 7:30pm at the Summit to judge a Mr. and Mrs. Summit event. I was the previous MC and a Resident Assistant that I am well acquainted with always keeps me informed of future events. Mr. and Mrs. Summit is an annual event where residents cross-dress and compete against each floor. There are 5 floors in the Summit and the judges judge by the contestants’ cross-dressing and talents. Some contestants danced while others sang. Susan Goldsmith won the competition because she sang very well while acting like a boy. Afterwards, the RAs were supposed to go to a volleyball game together but we missed it since it started at the same time as the Mr. and Mrs. Summit. I hung around with the RAs and shot pool like the old days until it got really late. I had to head back home to go to work the next day. Friday was just work. Saturday, I went to Comic Con and to my despair, I figured that all the tickets were sold out. Even if they weren’t sold out, I will still be contemplating the $50 ticket price. I remember going to other Jacob Javit Center events and what I paid for to see wasn’t as enjoyable as I expected. I roamed around the free section and I enjoyed the time so much more. All the action was outside of the convention. The best was the costumes that the anime lovers came in with. They were dressed like they came out of the movie set. Also the teenagers knew how to have fun. There was a dance competition similar to the Summit but with more attendees.

To top of this weekend, the weather was amazing. It was comfortable, not too hot and not too cold. The following day I went to a Japanese street festival at 93rd St. We enjoyed live Japanese exercising, performance and best of all, food!
