For all those who love soccer and are wondering whether they can play some soccer on campus, you should know that there is a soccer club here at Queens College. I know that not many people are aware of it. I intend to promote QC Soccer Club.
I have been a member of QC Soccer Club since 2007 and since I joined I met many wonderful people. I owe many of my great friendships to the club. People are very friendly, the games are exciting, it’s available to all QC students, and most importantly it’s a great work-out.
QC Soccer Club meets on Mondays and Wednesdays during the free hour (12:15 – 1;30 pm) at Fitzgerald Gymnasium on the 3rd floor North side.
The club for the most part is very organized. Usually there are pick-up games in which 2 teams of 5 players play for 5 minutes or 2 goals, whichever is achieved first. The winner stays on and the loser teams sits out. The next team on the list gets to play.
Towards the end of the semester there is a tournament held by the club which registered teams play one another and compete for the Cup. That is probably the most exciting part of the club and the games are extremely competitive but healthy.
So if you’re free, of course you must attend to your classes first and then if you are free, and if the school is open, then stop by at the club. Check it out for yourself. Make sure you have proper attire, meaning no jeans, boots, or cleats. Sneakers and work-out shorts and any kind of T-shirt is fine.
Also remember that sportsmanship should be our motto.
