Exhausted

I am just exhausted.

I have 3 saved drafts that I wanted to complete a few days ago but simply because of my midterms I was not able to put a 100% into it, and therefore they are still left unfinished. I will finish them and post them soon.

I am exhausted from the midterms and 3 nights of little to no sleep. That’s right I’ve had about 3 hours of sleep for the past 3 nights and that’s mainly because I was studying for my midterms.

Semesters always have a slow start, and at first everything seems to go well. But then before you know it, it’s time for the midterms and very soon after that you have to be getting ready for the finals week. Every semester I tell myself I have to have better time management, better planning, and better control over this matter. But then again I end up sleeping little hours, and putting off from other stuff just to stay on top of things.

However this semester as a senior and as a student who has been at Queens College over the past 5 years I can say that it is not time management that is causing the problem. This semester I simply am overloaded. If one goes through my daily schedule, it would be obvious as to why things are the way they are in my life. I don’t want to complain and I am not! I am happy but just tired. I think an 8-hour of sleep should put me back on track better than before.

At this point I would like to mention the concept of “opportunity cost” which of course a big topic in economics and accounting. For those of you who have no idea what opportunity cost, the cost of an alternative that must be given up in order to make certain decisions is opportunity cost. In my scenario the opportunity cost was the amount of sleep that I had to give up in order to study and prepare for my midterms in order to receive the desired grades (which in my case my desired grades are A+.)

In reality everything has an opportunity cost. Working hard, not watching TV, saying “no” to friends when they ask you to go out with them, not playing video games, and not doing many other things that we feel comfortable doing and in fact we enjoy; are all the opportunity costs for us to get good grades, graduate and succeed in life. Based on this concept it is easy to prove that sacrificing now, and putting just enough effort is going to pay off later. And most importantly one has to realize the in life everything has opportunity cost. You must always give up one thing for another. With that said I hope that we all as student can appreciate and value our time better by planning and managing it better.
