Midway

So it’s halfway through… the semester!!!!!!!! Welcome to the second half of the semester!!!

It’s unbelievable how fast this semester is going by.

I’m sure everyone has been having hectic schedules, not getting any sleep, and stressing over school life…. But that aside, the weather is ALSO driving me crazy. Last week, I figured that the temperature was going to keep dropping, but now we’re basically back to the warm spring temperature.

I feel like I can’t event tell whether it’s hot or cold anymore. Does anyone else feel the same? I took out my fur winter jacket last week weekend after I was freezing on my way home all of last week and decided to play it safe and rather be warm than cold. I was sweating my pores off in my jacket yesterday!!! How does this work? It wasn’t even springtime temperature – it was all of a sudden… SUMMER! Which was amazing, but with the weather so moody, I’m not surprised about the amount of students getting sick. On my volleyball team, half are sick and half are injured. Choir rehearsals are behind schedule because nobody seems to have the energy to sing, and the entire energy of the building seems to be on the quieter side for the crazy people in there.

So we thought it might be….

…for a while, but it just so happens to be that we might be able to enjoy some warmer weather for a bit more.

Recently, I had a huge discussion over giving money to homeless people.

I was right down Kissena Blvd. at Dunkin Donuts and (as some of you may know what it feels like to be in this situation), the usual homeless man asked me for some change. So, I said to him, I’ll buy you food, but I can’t give you any cash. First of all, I don’t like to carry around change with me anyway. He got upset at me. Ok. This is the deal- do you want the food or not? He scoffed at me and walked away. Ok. WTF?!

I have also had experiences in Manhattan where I had a whole bunch of leftover bagels, wraps, salad, and soup from a party and I decided to lugg it all the way to the subway station so I could give it to the homeless people. At first, they seemed so happy to be receiving food. Then they took the cold cup of soup and threw it on the ground, saying, “I don’t drink no damn cold soup!”

That made me so upset I was ready to throw the entire bag of food in his face but he seemed a lot stronger than me so I nixed that plan. How could you be so picky and greedy about food when you need others’ help in order to survive? How COULD YOU?! That’s why I don’t understand the people who waste food. Give it to someone. Don’t just throw it away. Someone will want it. A dog will eat it. Birds can peck at it. Someone worked very hard to deliver the food to you. Don’t just throw all that effort away.

As much as I would love to help you out Mr. Homeless Man, I am a student. We are all struggling to live and survive in this tough city. Actually, it doesn’t even matter what city you’re in. You need to work hard to live. That’s a fact. Next time I offer food instead of money (so you can go buy yourself some drugs or booze with it) and you refuse to take my offer, I am quitting. I am going to quit trying to be nice. We all gotta live, and I’m sorry the picky, greedy, and unappreciative people are ruining it all for the ones who do NOT take anything for granted, but I’m sorry. I am pissed.

And trust me, I hate to see them like this:

The simple little things in life are the greatest gifts in the world. If you don’t advantage of the small joys in life, you’re missing out the true essence of life.
