A Week with Me:

Well school is school. Each week for the last the 3 weeks, I had two tests. All in all it was fun studying and getting with classmates to get ready for the tests. I thought you fellow readers that you might want to have a taste of my work experiences each wee so here are entries I have had entered for my journal for last week:

Internship #1:

10/29/10- Raul came to the rescue! Raul found my $4 mistake within 10 minutes of work. I am always off by $4 or $40 when I ask Raul for assistance. I also learned how to use the large calculator with the paper roll that has been sitting on my desk since I started working there. I also learned how to load paper and ink into the calculator. I had a client that had over 6 months of missing checks and I was received 2 months of their missing checks and I had to refill them within the proper category. I also learned how to set up a journal for a new account that has been opened by one of the clients. This week I had a client that had over 7 accounts which was even more confusing than the previous client with 5 accounts. I learned from Joey that a new account’s first transaction must be placed in the general journal to make the account recognized I assume.

10/28/10- I was off balance by over seven thousand dollars and I wonder why it was so much. I spent over 2 hours to try to find my mistakes because I thought I accidentally deleted a previous entry from a transaction several months ago. I realized at the end it was because the returned checks were not shown as evidence in the bank statements. There was a small description of the returned checks but not large enough to detect easily. After I fixed that mistake, I was still $4 off! I couldn’t believe it and I waited till tomorrow to solve the issue.

Internship #2:

10/26/10- My first task was to send Carol the white mail excel sheet I made for her since she didn’t send it to herself from the computer I was using in the office. Then I gathered up all the information that are collected at each food pantry and counted the population. I was only working on two weeks prior but they took up a long time because the count had to be separated into children, adults and seniors.  This statistic is only gathered for people who ate at the pantry. Then there is another statistic sheet gathered for people who take a bag home which describes their household. At 5 pm, Pastor Marian had to go to the church in order to assist with Kid Zone. I became the sign in desk attendant for volunteers and families with kids. They served pizza that night and also gave it to the volunteers.

I have to keep journals in order to write my paper for the internship courses I am taking and will be taking for next semester. It is fun to write for my journals, blog, and yelp every week. I get to practice my writing skills.

I finally had my new door installed at my family’s house and the door professionals left the rest of the frame area unclean. There were many holes left behind by the previous door so I learned how to spackle and paint currently correctly from the internet. There was also lot of house cleaning to do yesterday. While I went to Home Depot to purchase the products I needed, my brother cleaned the backyard. I had to ask tons of questions while I was purchasing the paint, mailbox slot, paint cleaner, spackle, and door knob. I ended up not purchasing the mailbox slot since I think I will try a different method of building the mailbox slot.  I first installed the new door knob on my 2nd entrance door which was a quick and easy job. My brother and I then got started on painting. We smoothed down the sides of the frame the night before with rough sand paper so that it can be even. I am supposed to use primer before I paint with my regular coats but I skipped the primer since it was already white. I am painting it white again. Afterwards, we spackled the sides of the frame and filled in all the holes. Then we added the coats of paint. We had 3 coats, 1 after each other after every hour. The end result was fairly attractive for our first try although we realized that we should add more spackle to make the walls more even.

I rode on a bike to home depot, spackled, painted, and then to enjoy the rest of my night… I went to the club! I went with my girlfriends to the club and it was fun dancing with them and meeting new people there. Everyone I met was really kind and I didn’t get home till 4 thanks to daylight savings. I saw the pit, where people dance fight with each other. It was my first time watching a rock concert.
