Cuny First? I Don’t Think So.

One thing about me–I’m not a big fan of change. It’s like they say: If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. Yet here we are, ushering out the simple, beloved, student-friendly eSims and welcoming the new Cuny First system. I think I speak for a lot of people when I say, why? eSims is extremely easy to use and laid out so that really anyone can understand it. Everyone has a cuny portal account set up and the rest is simple. But Cuny First… I don’t even know how to make an account. Every time I try, I get a message that tells me my session has timed out. But that’s just a technical difficulty. The main issue is that changing the registration system in the middle of the academic year is a major pain for students. The switchover means delayed registration and learning how to register to begin with.

And, really, what person wants to be the guinea pig? Who wants to be the first to be a part of this experiment? No one knows if Cuny First will run smoothly, and now that it’s time to register, people are getting nervous. What if there are glitches in the system that were overlooked? Why should we have to worry about possibly getting messed over just so Queens could try out their new system? It’s a scary thought. And it’s driving people crazy! I think everyone’s ready to go back to the way things were, back to eSims. eSims… simple is beautiful.
