I’ve never been particularly fussy about boosting up my resume. I mean, at 20 years old, I’m returning to a summer camp with a very low pay and no tips allowed just to have one more summer just to have fun and be able to hang out with my friends. Many of my friends have at this point already had a significant amount of experience interning, working, or whatever else they could have done that would look impressive. And I guess that thought always crossed my mind, but it never did worry me. Now that I’m in college, I figure it’s time to consider different options of what I could do to build up my resume. And I have to say that it hasn’t been too hard. Thanks to Queens College, I’ve really been thinking ahead lately. And they really do provide the tools that will help me–and all students for that matter–get there.
Between the multitude of opportunities to get involved in extracurriculars that come in through QC email, the BALA department sending emails about available jobs and internships and how to approach, and career advisement, Queens College really does offer a lot of help when it comes to building a resume and gaining real life experience. Personally, I just got a research assistance position with a graduate student looking to publish a journal through one of the professors in the department. The professor emailed my name around and helped me get the position and really was a huge help. Everyone should really take advantage of the opportunities! They really are much more available than one might think–or, at least, they’re more available than I thought they would be.
Hope everyone had a great weekend!
