It’s funny, I’ve never really been into politics. I find politics to be somewhat of a drag, a little boring, and highly uninteresting. Campus politics are a whole different story, though.
Maybe it’s because campus politics affect me more than “real” politics. Maybe it’s because people I know are running. Either way, it’s got me interested and I don’t think I’ve been so eager to vote for anything before.
This past Wednesday, I was in the dining hall just chatting with my friends, when all of a sudden a bunch of students dressed as Disney characters come waltzing in. They were a part of the DSA (Democratic Student Association) and they were trying to get people to vote for them for student government.
Their argument was that the opposing group, UP (United People), used the school’s money to go to Disney World or something. That’s why they were dressed as Disney. It was a smart campaign idea, but it definitely got me interested in what they had to say.
Both DSA and UP had fairly good arguments as to what they could provide the campus. It was actually kind of refreshing seeing students get so involved in campus life. Their enthusiasm was pretty great, and a little bit inspiring.
At this point, I’m way too shy to do something like student government, but that’s something I’m trying to overcome in college.
So maybe one day….
