A quick props to those who stayed down at One Liberty Plaza last night, and those still down there tonight as well. As the temperature drops their fight against dismal NYC realities just begins to heat up.

I went down there for the kick off on Saturday. Crowd was wonderfully stocked with those (who shall not be named) newspaper recruiters, an old school Yippie (not a typo, a movement most notably associated with Abbie Hoffman), and tons of college leveled kids.
If I were to offer my two cents, it would be on the irony on the lack of average angry NY-er types. If setting up camp on NYC property isn’t the revolution, then I’m relieved. Of course my itch was to stay and marvel in the glory of a non permitted protest, but an element I have yet to understand held me back.
Maybe I’m a cynic, or a realist, or someone fed up with labels. As the argument of loose structures and organizational faults ensued around me, I realized how critical we are of each other, myself as no exception. Empowerment I intend to emanate daily is shot down by the dismal reality that all close contacts of mine are also cynics. Together we form the not trusting – call it as I see it – spontaneous – dislocated band of political allies. As grateful as I am for the candid beauty of the world, I also fear the unpredictable, the idea of sleeping in a collective largely based of strangers on the streets of the financial district. No the cop barricades don’t help, but neither does my guilt in writing this from the comfort of my house…
Maybe the fear tactics have worked on me, too. But is it crazy to be a skeptic of a group willing to risk their records to shed light on the shady records of Finance? As The Skeptix would say,
 I’m Living in a world of Hate and Fear
I Dream About it All the Time.

Monday’s opening of the Financial District will tell if their camp can withstand the need to speculate “bigger and better things” like the economy.  I hope the stock market plummets and not their heads.
