Infinite productivity

In linguistics, we speak of the human’s ability of infinite productivity in our language. You take a fixed number of rules to create sentences, and we are able to create an infinite number of unique sentences.

I was thinking about this the other day randomly while sitting on a bus on my way to work…. Thinking… producing something infinite from something finite.

Time management.

We have a limited number of hours in a day. We can’t possibly gain any more or lose hours. It doesn’t matter what you do and how productive you are, you’re stuck with 24 hours.

But when you think about it, there are an infinite number of ways to spend 24 hours. Every day we spend the same 24 hours differently. Never do we do the exact same thing we do on one day on another. I kept thinking….

MY STOP.

I MISSED MY STOP.

“Bus driver! STOP!” I yelled in Chinese.

 

Incidents like these are what keep my everyday interesting, fresh, and… on my toes.

School is not only about academic knowledge. When we realize how we can use and apply what we learn in the classroom to our life OUTSIDE of the classroom, we finally truly understand the meaning of the letters in our textbooks and our professor’s words.

Despite walking all the way back in the cold to the bus stop I originally intended to get off at,…

 

Thinking … is awesome.

Sometimes we intend to reach a certain destination and end up missing it. That’s also part of the fun.
