With all of the insanity that I’ve witnessed in the last week one may think I’d have many explicit words to attribute to them. Unfortunately that’s not always the case; rationality doesn’t accompany sensible language.

Daunting on  a park named after a forefather I scarfed vegan sushi (my first experience of sushi being fake, of course) and pondered the sky’s limitations. The only way to go from here seemed up. Except for the fate of the off-yellow pine tree – cut relatively high to where its branches may have been stretched. This particular living thing would never grace the fringes of the sky, not anymore.

Out of sight, hands cuffed, cattled and dominated. Authority under the cover of commonality, machismo, militaristic football – stole my friend. Without mine eyes witnessing the catastrophe, with my record left unscathed… I wonder how could another think they are securing the crowd when this happens in broad daylight. Just like the tree, shaken not to torment but to destroy, infinitely.

Which is what fear will do, if we let it. I board the train, it’s Friday morning but the tunnels of the underground don’t bid that fact. An exhausted MTA patron is positioned head in lap with arm support to balance the disequilibrium of the ride. 3 stops away he begins to stir, the individual across from me motions for me to join his side of the car, to be safe. I feel no danger, I politely and without words reject his offer. I survive. More than that I gain further experience on how to speak without opening my mouth.

If only activating consciousness could be done silently more – communication, fear, and other barriers may be broken. But the whole point is to breach the norms and the norm is deafeningly quiet. Besides the stir of the TV there is minimal stimulation. A waste of neurological stimulation – wake up. You can’t convert an organ into a machine, our bodies are better than that.

If there was a way to liven the workday with real education it would be connecting with the deemed unconnected. Discover the possibility of impossibilities; marvel in the paradox.
