Changing Places

To all the anxious people eagerly awaiting a post over the last few months, an apology. I am back writing after a two month hiatus with the usual self-indulgent excuse of “being too busy”, although these past few months have in truth been a bit crazy for my liking.

I have been home to England for most of the break, and spent two amazing weeks in Russia with the fiancé and her family, getting out of shape and enjoying the sights and sounds of Moscow.

This year’s Christmas presents came in the form of many books (and warm clothes to brave the Russian winter), so Bulgakov’s Master and Margherita was the natural choice to accompany me on my travels, a mystical novel about Satan’s own visit to the city during the years of the Soviet Union. A great piece of satire that is well worth a read.

Since returning to New York I have become the tenant of a impressively tiny room on the Upper West Side of Manhattan (picture above). My last year in the U.S. has arrived, and I would hate to say, without wanting to offend anyone, that i had spent all four of my years in this city in the depths of Flushing. So, for the next few months I will commute to Queens three days a week, and spend any free time I have exploring this island. So far, so good, on both fronts.

Soccer related posts will probably take a back seat for the time being, since our main season finished in the fall, and this semester mainly revolves around strength, conditioning, and overall fitness – in other words not things I’ll want to relive or retell at any great length.

Soccer and The City will become more simply “The City”, although the view from my bedroom isn’t quite as good and Sarah Jessica Parker’s, and I won’t be eating lunch so much. There’s a lot to be keeping myself busy with here, and I’m already loving it.

Goodnight from cosy my 7′ x 7′ room. I’m looking forward to writing again soon.
