Teachers Unite Via Twitter

Today we had a TIME 2000 seminar.

The TIME seminars are monthly meetings when everyone in the program meets early in the morning and guest speakers are brought in to enlighten us about what is new in the Math Teaching Realm. Today we had a great speaker who shared a lot about how Twitter is being used to create a mathematics community.

I’ve seen this played out a little when I’ve seen Dan Meyer’s @ddmeyer twitter account, and how he has mathematics discussions “in 120 words or less” on Twitter but I was overjoyed to see that this is a new phenomena!   Mathematics teachers are connecting via technology in order share lesson plans, potential teaching ideas/techniques, stories of encouragement and words of support. The resources are endless, and Twitter has become a connecting tool.

I’m excited now to get onto MathTwitterBlogoshpere search the people involved, follow them on Twitter and see what type of interesting math discussion they promote.
