Rented a Zipcar last weekend for a trip to Dia:Beacon, a beautiful museum/exhibition space less than two hours north of the city with huge installation pieces on display. This institution is also appended to a small town that one might call the very definition of quaint. The drive back was quite scenic, winding through Bear Mountain and other splendors of (sorta) upstate. It was nice to get away for even just a day trip — I haven’t quite left New York since last July!!
Yesterday I went to a gallery in Midtown to see really beautiful works by Anthony McCall. Words or photos could never do justice to the ethereal experience of video, light, and haze. But what the hell:
It was snowing pretty heavily all day, frigid winds coursing through the city. Today? You could hardly tell anything was out of the ordinary. Here we are in mid-March, chugging along toward springtime, supposedly. New York is playing games with us, y’all.
