Observations and Dance

The Function Dance

Dance is beautiful… therefore, maybe if we had a little mathematical dance to make function learning fun more people would see the beauty? I saw the a this image and had to laugh – I could imagine doing a review session with students and having everyone stand up and do the “Function Dance” … I wonder what tune/beat we would do it to? Maybe even make it into a project – the best group with a music video gains some points!

But such is off the topic I originally wanted to mention.

Wednesday brings my final Observation of the semester – the observation that means, “Next time you’re observed, you’ll actually be teaching, and the observer has the power to take away your job, therefore be serious now because you never know what horrors may lie in wait!”   Well, maybe not that intense, but basically the last observation means May 30 approaches, and then “REAL LIFE”

… I don’t know if my, “WHERE CAN I USE THIS IN REAL LIFE” Math problems prepared me for this.

Anyway.  I’m going to be teaching Literal Equations, where you have an equation like D=rt, and you have to solve for one of the variables.  I’m struggling with a motivation for this, so hopefully my Last observation, the one that seems to embody my future, will not totally fail.

Too bad I can’t just teach them a little equation dance.
