2014 NFL Draft Big Board

nfl_big_board_d1_576

With the NFL Draft a week away, it is time to finally unveil my big board.

This is very different from the mock draft that I originally did. A mock draft takes into account team needs when deciding what team will draft what player. A big board ranks players purely on their talent and where they rank regardless of their position.

I will do the top 64 players which would cover the first 2 rounds of the NFL draft, so without further ado…here we go.

1. Jadeveon Clowney, DE, South Carolina – Could be the best defensive player to come out in years. He has it all.

2. Sammy Watkins, WR, Clemson – I can legitimately see him becoming a top 10 receiver soon.

3. Greg Robinson, OT, Auburn – This guy can run and pass protect with the best of them.

4. Khalil Mack, OLB, Buffalo – This small school player obviously has brilliant game film in order to make it this far.

5. Jake Matthews, OT, Texas A&M – Comes from a long line of NFL success.

6. Mike Evans, WR, Texas A&M – Former basketball player, has the height and jump to dominate the NFL.

7. Anthony Barr, OLB, UCLA – Former running back, shows athleticism that is unmatched.

8. Eric Ebron, TE, UNC – Want a Jimmy Graham? Here he is.

9. Taylor Lewan, OT, Michigan – Had it not been for legal trouble he would have made things difficult for the top OT spot.

10. Johnny Manziel, QB, Texas A&M – He just makes it happen. That simple. Undersized? Sure. Does he win? Yes.

11. Aaron Donald, DT, Pitt – Fastest riser in the draft. Hustles every play. Makes up for lack of size with pure energy.

12. Zack Martin, OT, Notre Dame – Can play anywhere on the OL. What else do you want?

13. C.J. Mosley, MLB, Alabama – Had it not been for injury concerns he’d be a top 10 pick.

14. Darqueze Dennard, DB, Michigan State – Can play press or man coverage. Locks down his side of the field.

15. Blake Bortles, QB, UCF – I see him as a project QB, but can develop into something special.

16. Calvin Pryor, S, Louisville – Speed and energy is his game. He will fly all over the secondary laying vicious hits.

17. Ryan Shazier, LB, Ohio State – Hard hitter that might take too many chances. Athleticism is phenomenal.

18. Odell Beckham Jr., WR, LSU- Makes catching footballs look too easy

19. Timmy Jernigan, DT, FSU – Absolute monster in the BCS title game. Needs to work on conditioning

20. Brandin Cooks, WR, Oregon State – Want Desean Jackson without the problems? Here you go!

21. Justin Gilbert, DB, Oklahoma State

22. Marquise Lee, WR, USC

23. Kyle Fuller, DB, Virginia Tech

24. Xavier Su’a-Filo, OG, UCLA

25. Jimmie Ward, S, Northern Illinois – Best cover safety in the draft.

26. Derek Carr, QB, Fresno State – Just because his brother was a draft failure doesn’t mean he is too. NFL ready right now.

27. Kony Ealy, DE, Missouri – Can play multiple spots on the DL. Needs to be developed.

28. Scott Crichton, DE, Oregon State

29. Demarcus Lawrence, DE, Boise State

30. Hasean Clinton-Dix, S, Alabama

31. Louis Nix III, DT, Notre Dame

32. Jimmy Garoppolo, QB, Eastern Illinois – Gets the ball out the hand insanely quick. Could develop into best QB in draft.

33. Dee Ford, DE, Auburn – Would be a top 15 pick if his build didn’t leave him as a man without a true position.

34. Jason Verrett, DB, VCU

35. Cyrus Kouandjio, OT, Alabama

36. Ra’shede Hageman, DT, Minnesota – Seems like he takes plays off, but when he’s on…wow.

37. Cody Latimer, WR, Indiana

38. Jace Amaro, TE, Texas Tech

39. Lamarcus Joyner, S, Florida State – Very undersized, but like Manziel, he gets it done. Could be steal of the draft.

40. Gabe Jackson, OG, Mississippi State

41. Dominique Easley, DT, Florida – A torn ACL in each of his knees still makes him top 50. Would be top 5 if healthy.

42. Bradley Roby, DB, Ohio State

43. Joel Bitonio, OT, Nevada

44. Teddy Bridgewater, QB, Louisville – This is probably too far back, but he’s just too slender for the NFL. Not accurate.

45. Kyle Van Noy, LB, BYU

46. Austin Seferian Jenkins, TE, Washington

47. Jeremiah Attaochu, OLB, Georgia Tech

48. Kelvin Benjamin, WR, Florida State

49. Morgan Moses, OT, Virginia

50. Jordan Matthews, WR, Vanderbilt

51. Allen Robinson, WR, Penn State

52. Stephon Tuitt, DE, Notre Dame

53. Trevor Reilly, DE, Utah

54. Will Sutton, DT, Arizona State – He added weight this season after an unbelivable 2012 season. If he slims can be steal.

55. Telvin Smith, OLB, Florida State

56. Jarvis Landry, WR, LSU

57. Martavis Bryant, WR, Clemson – His quarterback hurt him. Great size and ability to high-point the football.

58. Jackson Jeffcoat, DE, Texas

59. Kareem Martin, DE, UNC

60. Aaron Murray, QB, Georgia – Torn ACL also hurt him. Would need to sit out a year or two and develop.

61. Trent Murphy, DE, Stanford

62. Bishop Sankey, RB, Washington

There you have it! My top 62 players for the NFL draft which takes place next Thursday, May 8th. It is very difficult to rank players in a perfect order, but where you see a player is generally the vicinity that I see him.

Hope you enjoy the draft next week, and stay tuned for reviews of the draft after it happens!
