Short Questions:
If you’ve traveled abroad, name all the countries you’ve been to (countries traveled to):
“USA, Israel, and Germany. And I was in the EU parliament in France because my school [in Germany] took us there, but that was only for like a few hours, so it doesn’t really count”
“If I was in France for a few hours and visited a parliament, I would say I’ve been to France”
“But we didn’t do anything, we just got off the bus took a tour and went back.”
“Well you crossed the border”
What are two countries you wish you could go to and why?
New Zealand, because in the spring when all the lambs are born you can pet them all, you can stop on the side of the road and pet these baby lambs. It’s great, there’s more sheep than people. and everybody is so friendly, and they say your always within a fifteen minute drive of somewhere breathtakingly beautiful. And I wanna say Ireland, but if I only had two I’m not sure, because the weather’s kinda crappy. Probably South Africa. It’s Africa…
“But it’s still the good Africa, is that what you’re trying to say? *laughs* ”
“*laughs* yeaaa, and isn’t that also where they have all the savanna’s and stuff”
“Well yea, but that’s also like Tanzania, Botswana…”
“Well I haven’t decided which country exactly, but there’s one with a voodoo market, I think Tanzania, like a flea market for Voodoo stuff, It’s just something I gotta see”
Books and movies that have made you cry:
“Most recently, “The Fault in Our Stars”
“What’s that?”
“ Wait, Really? It’s by John green, a young adult author and it’s about a girl who has cancer and she meets a boy at a cancer support group and they fall in love and they go to Amsterdam together *Laughs* trust me everyone who reads your blog will know what it is, I promise you. I watched it on the plane coming coming back from Germany visiting my mom, and spoiler alert, one of them dies, the one you’re not expecting to. I was so sad, I just sat there looking out in the window at the clouds crying. And I pulled out my laptop and wrote an angry letter to John Green, because the first time I watched it I thought he kind of romanticized cancer and made it seem so convenient, like when they visit the Anne Frank house in Amsterdam she had JUST enough strength to make it up the stairs, it’s so convenient ”
“Did you send the letter?”
“I did not. I thought it was a little bitter…And as for a book [that made me cry], “Angela’s Ashes”
Favorite spot in NYC:
“The [gymnastic] rings in Riverside Park. I’ve been going there since I was Eight.”
If you’re really bored what’s your go to place on the internet?
I don’t have one. I guess Tumblr. I have different Tumblr’s for different moods, there’s one from a boy in my school, so that’s interesting, then there’s like your funny tumblers like Dan’s Tumblers, and then there’s a spiritual one that tells me how to activate my Chakra’s and I’m like ‘woohoo!’”
*There was then a five minute conversation about Chakra’s, where I learnt Chakra means “wheel”.*

In Depth Questions:
A morbid, dark question. A genie appears and tells you that you have a choice. You can either choose to live in solitary confinement in prison for the rest of your life or five people you don’t know and will never hear about instantly die. Which would you choose and why?
“Do I get Paper and Pen”
“No”
“your cruel, do I get to shower and stuff”
“ You can shower occasionally”
“I would have have to choose solitary confinement. Maybe if it was one person I’d choose one for one, but for five people, I would choose solitary confinement.”
Lets say you know you will live till 80. Would you give up two years of your life for one day on the moon?
“No. There’s like less gravity, so I could jump really high, which is cool as s**t, but I could also go to a trampoline factory. Also, I wouldn’t be able to relate to anyone else about the experience. I would be like, ‘hey guys, remember that time I went to the moon??’… And they would be like ‘good for you’. Two years is a long time. You know what I could do in two years?”
If you could be obscenely wealthy and powerful in any age, time, culture, or country etc…, which would it be? Roman noble? kate in “titanic” rich? persian king? victorian lord? modern times? and why?
“Modern Times. Back then anyone could kill you at anytime and steal your wealth, but now we have top notch security systems. And I could travel everywhere in style and visit all the countries. And if I have infinite money, I could help people. Like go to some random country, and feed everyone.”
All Holden in “The Catcher in the Rye” wants to do is stop kids from falling off a cliff. If you could have any job, assuming all salaries for every job are equal, what would you want to do? why?
“ I should probably give this more thought, but I would love to be a carpenter, I think it would be really cool to build stuff with my own hands and have my own sander and my own workshop, and build chairs, and all my kids bunk beds would be built by me, and I could have a tree house that would be built by ME…”
“That is so awesome.”
“Right?!? Or A ttraveler Like a professional traveler”
“Like you get paid to write reviews about places you’ve traveled. Imagine if someone actually has that job…”
“Someone must right? That’s my ideal job, it’s just unrealistic. But I would choose carpentry over that, because how long could you do that? I want kids and would want to settle down. I guess if you don’t want kids then it could work”
Android, IOS windows or other? What made you choose?
“Were an Apple family. All phones and computers are Apple. Born and raised that way”
“So it’s more like your family made the choice, have you ever considered switching?”
“Well we got our phones pretty late, when did you get your first one?”
“About seventh grade”
“Right so I got mine May of eight grade, and when I was studying for the SHATS [specialized NYC high school exams], my dad wanted to give me an incentive, and the Iphone Three was just coming out and I wanted an Iphone so he told me if I get into Bronx Science, Stuyvesant, or HSMSE, he would get me one. But then It got stolen my first year in Bronx Science.”
Do you believe in God(s)? A sort of life force you couldn’t actually describe if your life depended on it? what are your views on the statement “I believe in god but not organized religion”?
“Yes, I do believe in god. I was raised Jewish, but I was not raised religious. I was raised with the morals. I like the idea of a lot of the customs Like shabbat [sabbath] and the way Jews do funerals, for example. I guess I would say I don’t believe in organized religion though. I feel like sometimes it hurts spirituality.
Who would you say are the top five best looking celebrities/models, male or female”
“Do they have to be celebrity celebrities or could they be Instagram celebrity?”
“ *laughs* they can be Instagram celebrities”
“Ok, so Josie Canseco, she’s the baseball players daughter, and she did this youtube show so she’s like…internet famous, but she’s so friggin gorgeous, and Lia Marie Johnson, she’s also internet famous, also really pretty, in such a different way though. Zac Efron. Selena Gomez.
Would you let a guy pay for you on a date / would you insist on paying for the date? why?
“I’ll let him pay *laughs*”
“Ok, but would you be disappointed, would you expect him to pay?
“On a first date, I think you should pay. After you can split 50-50. If it’s a date date and you’re going to dinner, I would expect him to pay. Do you think that’s wrong?”
If your watching a documentary, which type of documentary would you watch? Nature safari documentary? History? How its made? Some documentary about the space and the universe that leaves you mind blown?
“Probably a medical documentary about an illness only like eleven people in the world have”
“those don’t freak you out?”
“no, you know those extraordinary people documentaries, like the mermaid girl? her legs were conjoined, and the amazing thing is that she was actually able to live with that condition, because most people have it fixed.”
“Is it actually good for swimming?”
“No, because she couldn’t do any exercise and she got really heavy”
“Oh… this is making me really depressed, why would you want to watch this?”
“yea, it’s a very sad documentary, she dies in the end. Because it causes so many other problems, you know? Well….you know, my kryptonite!”
My escapist fantasy is if things are going really badly, I’ll just withdraw all the money I have in my bank account, buy some camping supplies, and go live off the land in Canada. Do you ever have escapist fantasies. If so, what are they?
“Can you define escapism?”
“Like your having a really bad day and you say to yourself, I’m just gonna go somewhere or do something”
“I would travel. Find the person I want to be with, and go travel with them. Because you want to share those experiences. Or join some hippy group that travels, I don’t wanna say cult…because that has terrible connotations.”
JRR Tolkien, author of the Lord of the Rings, wrote “Many that live deserve death. And some that die deserve life. Can you give it to them? Then do not be too eager to deal out death in judgement. For even the very wise cannot see all ends.” Do you agree with capitol punishment? Hitler and the 9/11 terrorists included.
“I think about this a lot. Have you ever heard of absolute moralism? It’s people who think you can only be good or bad? It was from a guy on HONY, who said it was his biggest pet peeve, that if people do something good your discredited if you do something bad, and the example he brings is Martin Luther King, everyone can agree he’s a good guy, but then there’s someone who will say ‘oh he cheated on his wife, and like’ *long pause* it depends how high profile. Hitler, get’s capital punishment. It also depends if there’s a doubt in the case, like if someone’s on trial and they say they didn’t do it, then don’t kill them. But if it’s something so blatant, like Hitler being the leader and arranging the holocaust, and there’s no mistake about it, then yes. but if an average guy kills someone, do I think they should die?”
“So where do you draw the line between high and low profile? Say someone who kills their whole family?”
“Well take Jesse from breaking bad, he killed a lot of people, but he had extenuating circumstance”
“but is it possible everyone has extenuating circumstances?”
“But Jesse didn’t WANT to”
“I’m not gonna justify what Hitler did, but there probably is someone out there who will say that Hitler, because he had a bad childhood or something like that, it led him to do that and it’s not his fault.”
“It’s not the same thing”
“It’s not the same thing but one could make the case it’s on the same spectrum”
“It’s not though. that’s beyond circumstance. Extenuating circumstance is like someone puts a gun to your head and says kill this person or I’ll kill you. If you have wonky parent’s, that’s not extenuating circumstance. I would say if it’s intentional murder, you would draw the line at three people, and the person confesses, and there’s overbearing proof. Intentional and planned out.
“So that’s the grounds for the death penalty, intentional and premeditated?”
“ *quietly* I don’t know, I don’t like this *Laughter* but there are circumstances where even if you have premeditated, you can have a justifiable motive. I can’t do this one, next question! “
