College Football Playoff

A new tradition is born for college football. Gone are the days where bowl games would decide a national champion. It will no longer take an end of the season ranking to make you fight in a game to decide a winner.

Four teams qualify.

Two rounds decide a winner.

College football playoff makes it much more decisive as to who is the best team in college. Your final season ranking will determine whether or not you make the playoff. The #1 team plays the #4 and the #2 plays the #3. This is a very fair system, so long as the committee picks the right four teams to make the playoff.

With that being said, the playoff is nearing. We have had unveilings of the current status of the playoff picture. If the playoff were today, the ranking would go as follows.

1. Alabama

2. Oregon

3. Florida St.

4. Mississippi St.

TCU, Ohio State, Baylor and UCLA would be right on the edge of making the playoff.

I think the playoff committee has been right so far. These are the four best teams in college football.

Florida State is the one main talking point out of the four. Florida State is the only unbeaten team, yet they sit at #3 and some think that is even high. This can go either way. Some think their flawless record is deserving of a #1 seed. Why is this so heavily debated?

Florida State has a much easier record than any of these other teams. Although they are unbeaten, they have struggled in almost every game this season. There is also a lot to be said for a team that is unbeaten. For a team to have their backs against the wall so many times and find ways to win the game shows a lot about the mental strength of this team. Jameis Winston, the best quarterback in the country (in my opinion) gives his team a great chance to win each and every time he touches the field.

Mississippi State would be the first team to lose their spot as it stands. However, I do think that they are deserving of the #4 seed. Their only loss this season came against Alabama, an amazing team as shown by their #1 ranking. This team deserves a chance to rematch Alabama. Their matchup was great to watch and someone had to lose that game, so it says a lot for both of them.

I really can’t see the playoff changing. I do think that these are the four best teams in college. If you were to ask me who was the best before this season started, I would have said UCLA. Brett Hundley, QB for UCLA has struggled mightily this season and seems to have regressed badly. UCLA has not lived up to their hype and it may be too late for them. Other than them, I think the top four teams are in the playoff now and I hope that doesn’t change.

As for who I think will win it all, I have to go with Oregon. Oregon has a dynamic offense and a defense that can get by. Marcus Mariota, QB for Oregon, is likely playing his last season for the team and is one of the best players in college. I think Mariota and the Oregon Ducks play relentless offense, wear down their opponents and find their way to a championship.
