We all know that one social justice warrior…
You know…that addicted to Tumblr, pro-everything “good,” anti-everything “bad” student who likes to hashtag causes and fight for everyone’s rights from behind their computer screen?
Or maybe you know a whole bunch?
And sure they post statuses with lofty goals and get “likes”…
But is this really activism?
Sure Facebook and other social media are great ways to “advertise” your views, but activism requires more…well…activity.
Activism, in its purest form, is a dying art.
I mean, “internet activism” isn’t completely useless and is better than nothing.
But recently, everyone’s become a “social justice warrior.”
And while “warrior-ing” is admirable, if you want to be an impetus for significant change, you can’t do that from your desk.
So before you declare yourself a social justice warrior…
Make the conscious effort to not just “like” and “post” things, but to take action. Sign petitions, write to government officials, partake in public protests/marches, donate to causes, attend events and speeches for various causes, and speak out in your everyday life too (not just on the internet).
