As I’ve mentioned in previous posts, I love tacos and Mexican food in general. I’m a fan of anything with Mexican flare. I’m also a fan of margaritas.
They’re fun little (or big) beverages that consist of tequila, lime or lemon juice, triple sec and salt or sugar on the rim of the glass. They can be frozen in slushie form or on the rocks and can be made in a ton of cool flavors! How can you resist?
If you’re a fan of the show Friends (my favorite), you might remember that Ross made a pitcher of margaritas and basically drank the whole thing to cope with the fact that Rachel and Joey started to date.
He proceeded to get super drunk at his dinner party and explain to his guests (which included Rachel and Joey) the true meaning of love. The scene ended with him crying into his margarita. I guess this scene is wildly popular because when I googled “margarita gif” it was the first to show up.
I do not recommend that you turn to margaritas or any alcoholic beverage to cope. For example, they will not make you feel better if you’re trying to take control of the impending doom that surrounds you when you think of post-grad life (heheh).
BUT, if you’re looking for some fun, I think the coolest place to get a margarita in Queens is at El Patron, 194-01 Northern Blvd, in Bayside.
The best thing about this margarita is that they are served in actual patron
bottles! Which means, yes, they are huge. Like, TOO big. But cool looking!
At El Patron there are so many different flavors you can choose from. There is strawberry, mango, coconut, guava, grape, blue raspberry, raspberry, peach, melon, pineapple, strawberry/banana, mango/coconut, wild berry, passion fruit, pomegranate and blueberry.
They also have other drinks such as mojitos, caipirinhas and daiquiris. They even have a dessert martini called a Tiramisu Martini. But nothing is as cool as the patron bottle margaritas.
In the picture here, right to left, are strawberry, pomegranate and peach margaritas.
Not only do they look nice, but they also taste really good! The flavors taste fresh; they do not taste like flavored syrup like they do with other flavored margaritas at different places. I definitely recommend getting one of these if you ever come by El Patron.
And what goes amazing with alcoholic drinks? Finger food, of course! Especially if it’s filling, cheesy and of course, Mexican. El Patron has really, really great food. My friends and I ended up getting a chicken quesadilla, which is flour tortillas stuffed with cheese, grilled chicken, mushrooms, sour cream and pico de gallo.
We also got an appetizer called “Nachos Machos,” which is crispy corn tortilla chips covered in ground beef, melted cheese, sour cream, beans, pico de gallo and jalapenos. So good, so messy, so perfect. Like, look at all of that.
We also ordered a side of sweet plantains. They serve a lot of traditional entrees at El Patron such as Burro Grande, which is a flour tortilla stuffed with steak or chicken, beans, Mexican rice and cheese.
They also serve tacos, fajitas and arroz con pollo. There are also enchiladas rancheras, which is a corn tortilla stuffed with shredded chicken, served with red tomato sauce, sour cream, Mexican rice and beans. All. So. Good.
If you’re interested, you could try to make your own margarita at home! Here is a really easy to follow video on YouTube by Chowhound on how to make a margarita:
But regardless, if you’re interested in a fun night out come check out El Patron in Bayside, Queens!
