Just one more…

I am one semester shy of graduation.

I cannot wait. I have been here for a really long time and it’s time for me to graduate and move on to the next big project; my graduate studies in accounting.

I love Queens College, but I am getting tired of being an undergraduate student for 6 years.

Those people who come in and finish their undergrad. in 4 years are really LUCKY. I wasn’t lucky in that sense. I had to work from day one and therefore I was forced to be a part-time student. I also took two semesters off. The combination of taking less credits per semesters and taking a year off, led me to delay my graduation time by 3 semesters. Had I been on time, I would have graduated in Spring of 2009.

It used to bother me a lot that I fell behind. Eventually I started looking at it differently. I realized that in a man’s 70 year long life, 2 years is like 2 days. It’s really minor, and plus I was not wasting my time, I was working and I had to. So instead of letting it eat me up, I became proud of myself. I noticed that overall I have done much better than those students that had it much easier than I did.

I  don’t mean to compare myself with others, but we all have these thoughts about our lives, “what if I did this”, “what if I did that” and etc. So I stopped looking at it that way completely. I started a new approach, telling myself there must number of GOOD reasons that made be where I am today. Maybe, just maybe, it wasn’t my time yet to graduate. I don’t know whether I want to claim that I believe in fate and destiny so much. But with great confidence I can say that I certainly know that I don’t know everything. In fact there are more things that I don’t know than the things that I know that can make a great impact on my decision-making abilities. With all that said, I’m happy with what I’ve got, and I don’t want to complain.

I will soon graduate too and then it will be as if none of this happened before. Until then, I need to stay sharp, focused, on-point, and on-task!

Congratulations to the Class of 2011, and best of luck!
