Perspective

Over some awesome soup dumplings and some yummy seafood noodles at the Nan Xiang Xiao Long Bao Restaurant by Prince Street…. (stomach growls)

“I’ve always done a million things in life. My dad criticized/still criticizes me for doing too much. He blamed my multitude of interests for my lack of … expertise in one subject.”

I was telling my usual story to a new friend of mine… on autopilot….

……………………………

“Why do you have to focus?”

“HUH?”

“WHY do you feel the need to focus?”

I was caught by surprise.

“Well…, uh….of course, I need to concentrate my energy on one thing so I can improve and take the next step. I’m done being the high-school-hero.”

“And… why is it that your blog can’t be about how you’re balancing the many things you are so capable of doing? I mean, I’m glad you’re focusing, but you’re always going to be doing more than one thing – life is not always about simply doing one thing and only that.”

This is why I love getting to know new people and making new friends. It usually means opening my mind to a completely different perspective. This is what we need. The opportunity to question ourselves.

Yes. Believe in yourself. But remember to question yourself once, twice, to keep yourself on your toes. It probably means you’re inching your way towards the answer you’re looking for.
