I’m a B.A. student in Music. A “Bad Ass” in music, I’d like to say. Since the Copland School of Music for Undergrad is a Classically trained program, I chose voice as my main instrument for it’s the most natural to me. But in the 3 full years I’ve been here, my main focus with music has been everything but opera singing! While I do enjoy studying all them classy (no pun intended) Germans that make up the Classical world: Bach, Beethoven, Schumann, Schoenberg and so on, I find myself exploring other cultures’s music and the realms of music as well! My chameleon music tastes run from the exotic Balinese Gamelan I perform with, the jazzy blues classes I sit in, the quirky toy instrument music I’m composing . . . and the beautiful French chansons about wanting to do nothing but smoke. In this blog I will share the wonderful music I learn about plus my experiences of the underdog cultural world music that lies behind the doors of the Aaron Copland School of Music.
