MUSIC CIRCUS! Come one come ALL!

Hoorah! After all this crazy weather, it is time to get ready for my performance in the upcoming CAGE MUSIC CIRCUS on Monday! I have already posted about John Cage, the philosophical composer of the 20th century who’s music is definitely “out there.” In the second half of his career, he started writing chance pieces which gives freedom to the perform to improvise or choose a part. These pieces along with many other Cage works, were also written to be played together therefore creating a Music Circus. I have never experienced a music circus before so I have no idea what to expect but I do know it’s going to be crazy. The pieces range from a choral accapella, percussion piece with sound effects, a song for voice and closed piano (I’ll be the singing that!), a piece for multiple radios, a solo piece for amplified CACTUS and other organic materials and much much more wacky/interesting stuff.  There will also be dance and a radio-style play will be performed after the madness so there’s a little bit of something that may satisfy your artistic interests!

Come share this wonderful experience of John Cage’s 100th Anniversary with all of us at the Aaron Copland School of Music, Monday November 12 2012 at 12pm (free hour)! There is not set room number for the circus cause we will be performing all over the school so just walk right into the fun (the play will take p[lace after the music in LeFrak Hall)! Trust you’ll never see something like this again at Queens College!
