My college friends are getting married in San Francisco next year, and I have the distinct honor of doing some kind of literary reading as part of their ceremony. I thought I would just wait and let inspiration strike, but more recently I realized that I may have to do my homework on this matter. A co-worker recommended Rilke, so I’ve been thumbing through one of his anthologies to see what I can find. I suppose I could default to Pablo Neruda, but is that cliché? As a writer of fiction with very tenuous ties to poetry, I keep hoping I’ll stumble into a perfectly beautiful passage in some book I’m reading. It’s tough when you don’t really know what you’re looking for to begin with! A nudge in the right direction, or any direction, really, would be appreciated. Guess I’ll keep drinking coffee on this Saturday morn.

Hmm…maybe instead of a random piece of literature, you could read something from a piece the bride and groom like? Maybe it’ll be more meaningful that way?
“Coffee on a saturday morn” – the language here sounds wonderful. I can’t remember the last time I heard someone use the word “morn”. Love it.
Neruda should be a fall back. You are too cool and sophisticated for someone as common and contemporary in popularity as Neruda. I think the right “passage” will smack you in the face when you least expect it.You will find something perfect for your friends when you’re not thinking about finding something uber romantic in your search.
