Recipe of the Week: Apple Crisp
Procrastination: the deadliest word in the human language. Or rather, the deadliest word in a college student’s vocabulary.
A “break” is never really a “break.” So what happens when you have a ton of assignments to do and three Thanksgiving parties to go to in three days? Chaos.
I don’t even like turkey, and yet, I made sure that those three rounds of turkey were gobbled down so as to not insult the chef. Stuffing faces aside, I got no work done. I mostly slept really (an unfortunate side effect of too much turkey, I’m sure).
At the beginning of last week, I took my first academic blow: my first ever “barely passing” grade. In an ideal world, I would have looked at the grade, shrugged, and said “I’ll do better next time.” But of course, that’s not what happened. Considering this is my first bad mark, I fell into the fiery pits of despair and drowned in my own self-pity.
It’s difficult to get yourself motivated when you try and fail. So when Thanksgiving week came around, the “eh I’ll do it tomorrow” attitude was very hard to shake; especially since I was home.
Growing up, I never thought my house was anything special. I would go to school, come home, do homework, eat, sleep, etc. Now? Going home is a blessing. I’m either rolling all over the floor with my dog, Neo, or immersing myself in video games. Home has become a homework-free zone. Unfortunately, this meant I got no work done.
Now this was my first encounter with procrastination, and so it’s my first time dealing with the after-effects. Needless to say, I’ll be locking myself up in my dorm for a while catching up on all the work.
Because I went to so many different Thanksgiving parties this year, there was absolutely no time to make actual dishes. So instead, I made a fast (and easy) dessert that everyone loves! Unless, of course, you hate apples. It’s called apple crisp; a variation on apple pie. I bought an apple crisp pack and just followed the instructions, but if you would like to try to make this recipe from scratch, I recommend this recipe: http://allrecipes.com/recipe/apple-crisp-ii/
Ingredients:
2 Apple Crisp packets
10 Peeled and diced Apples
1 ½ sticks of melted butter
Optional:
Vanilla Ice Cream
Caramel
The apple crisp recipe is a fun and delicious desert to make when, quite simply, you have no time to make anything else. I hope you all enjoyed your Thanksgivings!
Oooh sounds (and looks) amazing!
