And just like that, we’re snapped back to reality. In just a few hours, we’re trudging back to classes, blinking at the professor as they gesture emphatically to the PowerPoint slides, wondering why they’re so enthusiastic when they know your brain is still skipping in la-la-land and probably won’t be back until tomorrow. Ahhh, what a wonderful time to be a student.
I don’t know about you but I am not ready for my Spring Break to be over. I always dread the day back to classes after a break because I always do jack squat during the break, which I do not condone by the way, and the day right after the break, I’m always suffering from sleep deprivation because I have spent the entire break sleeping at 5 in the morning and waking up at 2 in the afternoon, again I do not condone this throwing-your-sleep-cycle-completely-out-of-wack-thing, do not condone at all.
Anyway, my first day back is always a hot mess for me; I have just enough sanity to get to my classes and take some half-legible notes but nowhere near enough sanity to actually process anything that’s going on in class. It’s kind of something like this:
complete with the dazed-off eyes and the smile that says “yes, I’m listening, no really, I’m listening, *insert Charlie Brown teacher sound effects – wah wah wah…”
But, that is life. If reality were a delight, our vacations wouldn’t be so precious to us, would they? As with Cinderella and the ball, the clock’s struck twelve on our getaway and it’s back to late night mugs of tea and rubbing our eyes as we hunch over our textbooks and try to remember anything that we’ve learned all semester. And yes, we can sure as heck pull off a good semester.
Countdown: 1 1/2 months until Summer Vacation!
