Publishing for the Instant world of Tech

I just found a blog by Lisa Nielsen called, The Innovative Educator, which is basically the goal for the type of blog I’d like to one day have.

The post that caught my eye is called, Innovative Educators Don’t Say, “Hand It In.” They say, “Publish It.  I considered how in the age where we Tweet, Post, Blog, Update, and Upload, the daily drone of activities is Published moment by moment.  If our students can, with confidence, “Publish” the tweet,

Finished that essay, now @gossipgirl #Obsessed

Why can’t we have the students, in much the same way, “Publish” their successes, or ideas about mathematics?

The array of projects that can stem from this line of thinking is outstanding.  Wiki Page updates or weekly blog posts, much like this endeavor here, can allow students to be actively engaged in publishing thoughts or research on topics of the teacher’s choice.  Student collaboration can play a role too, in assignments of encouraging comments from fellow peers suddenly there becomes student to student feedback.

Oooh this is making me so excited to think about! Because of the technology that is available to us in this age of instant updates, mathematics can become a real-time interaction between students.  This is beautiful!
