2015 NFL Draft Top 50

The 2015 NFL Draft will finally take place four days from now, April 30th in Chicago.

This has to be one of the most difficult drafts to predict of all-time. What makes this draft unique is the lack of can’t miss, scheme transcending talent. There is a plethora of elite talent, but scheme-fit will play a large part in where players are taken. Some players come with their off-the-field concerns, others come with injury concerns and the depth at certain positions will also surely add to the question marks in this first round.

What I have here is my list of the top 50 players, in order. As the draft goes on, obviously this won’t have much to do with where players are taken. For example, at the top of the list I have Leonard Williams, but with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on the clock to start the draft, their need at quarterback is much stronger than at defensive tackle, so it makes sense for them to take Winston who is my second rated player.

Stay tuned for next week, as I will offer reviews of how the draft played out.

1. Leonard Williams, DT, USC

2. Jameis Winston, QB, Florida State

3. Amari Cooper, WR, Alabama

4. Todd Gurley, RB, Georgia

Georgia running back Todd Gurley would make a case for the top ranked player in this draft had it not been for a torn ACL

5. Dante Fowler Jr., DE, Florida

6. Vic Beasley, OLB, Clemson

7. Kevin White, WR, West Virginia

8. Trae Waynes, CB, Michigan State

9. Randy Gregory, OLB, Nebraska

Randy Gregory was looked at as a top-3 prospect until he tested positive for marijuana at the NFL Scouting Combine

10. La’el Collins, OT, LSU

11. T.J. Clemmings, OT, Pitt

12. Marcus Peters, CB, Washington

13. Alvin “Bud” Dupree, DE, Kentucky

14. Devante Parker, WR, Louisville

15. Marcus Mariota, QB, Oregon

16. Shane Ray, DE, Missouri

I have a feeling Shane Ray may be one of the surprise players who slips in this draft. His size makes it a considerable risk for GMs to take

25. Byron Jones, CB, UConn

Byron Jones' elite athleticism was on show at the Combine. His tape matches his athleticism making a very valuable cornerback with some safety experience as well

36. Alex Carter, CB, Stanford

Alex Carter is a player I am much higher on than most. I put a ton of value into a cornerback's intelligence. Carter is an athlete and an academic who shows his smarts on the field as well as the classroom

46. Devin Smith, WR, Ohio State

Devin Smith is the best deep ball receiver in this draft. He will be an extremely valuable asset to NFL offenses with his ability to stretch the field. He will help receivers get open underneath as well as pull defenders out of the box to help running plays
