Nice and Easy Spaghetti

So as promised, I will be doing some recipes on quick things to eat during finals (check out my previous post here). Today I will be going over a really quick and easy way to make your generic, store bought tomato sauce much more flavorful. Store brand tomato sauce tends to be either be too bland and/or too sweet. So fear not! You can buy a gallon of cheap tomato sauce and still get a full, rich flavor out of it. And because spaghetti is so easy to make, you’ll be able to eat a filling meal and get back to studying in no time! This recipe feeds around 3-4 people. I did this so that you can use a whole box of pasta and a whole jar of tomato sauce. You can just half or quarter this recipe if you only want one serving, but sharing is caring!

Ingredients:

1/2 onion, diced (of your choice)

3 cloves garlic, minced

2 tsp. olive oil

1 1/2 tbsp. salt

1 tbsp. black pepper

1 box spaghetti (or pasta of your choice)

1 jar (32 oz) of tomato sauce

Boil water for your pasta. It usually takes around 10 minutes to get a good al dente for a whole box of pasta.

While your water is boiling, take your minced garlic and diced onions and place into a medium pot (big enough to fit all of the tomato sauce). Drizzle olive oil over the onions and garlic and stir over medium-high heat. Make sure to keep an eye on the onions as they will burn rather quickly if left unattended.

Once the onions start to brown, pour the tomato sauce into the pot and lower heat to low-medium heat. Stir the contents well until the garlic/onions are well distributed throughout the pot. Add salt and pepper and let it sit on low heat while you cook your pasta.

The longer the pot sits, the fuller the flavor will become. This is due partly to the fact that you’re evaporating some of the water they use to water down the sauces. At the same time, the low heat will cause the onions and garlic to release their own flavors into the sauce.

And that’s it! All together, in the time that it takes for the water to boil and pasta to cook, you’ll have made a much richer, more flavorful tomato sauce! It is low maintenance and quick AND it makes a lot of food. If you have any questions or comments, feel free to hit up the comment section below!
