Saying Goodbye with Pizza

Hi guys! I’m sad to say that this will be my very last QC Voices post, womp womp. I’m graduating (better late than never, I guess) and will be going off into the real world. Or something, I don’t really know how to feel. Nervous. Just nervous.

Anyway, when I first started writing for QC Voices, the first neighborhood I talked about was my own neighborhood, Forest Hills. And so I thought it would be nice to talk about Forest Hills again, specifically one of my favorite restaurants in Forest Hills, to come full circle.

The place I’ll be talking about is Dee’s, located at 107-23 Metropolitan Ave. Dee’s is a brick oven pizza place that has been around for as long as I can remember. I remember coming here when I was little and coloring all over the tablecloth. We were allowed to, it was made of brown paper and we were given crayons. (Mama didn’t raise no troublemaker.)

So this brick over pizza place is mainly know for their, well, brick oven pizza. There is this open oven right near the dining area, and if you’re really looking for it you might be able to see your pizza go in!

You can customize your own pizza and request any toppings you like. You can even change the dough to whole wheat if you want. You can pick classic red sauce, no sauce, just cheese (but what kind of cheese?!), or pesto. You can pick the kinds of meats and vegetables you want. You can even add French fries to your pizza!

A really good pizza combination that I like getting is classic red sauce, fresh mozzarella, sautéed spinach and prosciutto. But the combinations are really endless.

It can be a bit overwhelming, and if you find yourself flustered you can pick one of the many pizzas on the menu. A really good one is the Grilled Farmers Market.

This one has fresh mozzarella, plum tomato sauce, grilled zucchini, squash, eggplant and red onions. You can see the full pizza menu  here.

Dee’s has other great things on their menu besides pizza, like some of their appetizers. Their Teriyaki Drumlets and Wings are so tangy and satisfying. They’re marinated in teriyaki and sesame sauce.

They also have some of the best salads around. My favorite is their Dee’s Salad, which is a mesclun mix with aged bleu cheese, pecans, Grammy smith apples and Dee’s vinaigrette.

Another amazing addition to Dee’s appetizer menu is their Taco of the Month! This monthly taco creation is super exciting (to me, at least).

Dee’s also has a variety of pasta and entrées if you’re not the biggest fan of pizza. My suggestion is the Linguini and Baby Clams. The baby clams are sautéed in tomato and onion, and you have the choice of white wine & garlic sauce or Dee’s Marinara sauce.

I definitely encourage you to check out Dee’s in Forest Hills, Queens. Have some fun and create your perfect pizza! I also encourage you to come visit Forest Hills; it’s really, really pretty. Not that I’m biased, or anything…
