Long week

A resident in the Summit informed me that we only have a month left before summer. I knew school was going to end soon but I didn’t know that it was going to end that quick. I enjoyed my stay in the Summit but I will not be returning next year due to personal and career reasons. As the semester comes to a close, I thought about how I will not be returning next semester as a resident assistant.

Running for president of the campus is not that easy and I found that out this week. You must be able to manage your coursework, presidential duties and also extra work that you have, such as resident assistant position.

On Monday, April 19, Shaak, Rob from DSA and I debated in the WQMC radio show hosted by Nat. The UP presidential candidate was unavailable to debate. We discussed issues that were relevant to student’s experiences on campus in Queens College. We spoke of our goals as president and what we wanted to do if we were elected. I had my usual discussion board and Aplia homework due this week and I also had a quiz and a presentation for econ 207. On top of that, I had to go out and campaign.

Monday night after the debate, I went out on campus with a couple of friends to post flyers and also to campaign with our laptops.  It was hard to do at night because there are only a few students taking night courses compared to the students during the day.

Tuesday, I had classes and then I had duty starting at 5 till 8:30am the next day so I couldn’t campaign. The rules in the Summit is that you can’t campaign on Summit property, although there have been attempts. My vice presidential candidate went out and campaign for the both of us.

Wednesday, I had to study for my bus 243 quiz. I attended the spring fest at free hour to get my mind off the elections and classes. Then I took the quiz and hurried back to the Summit to get ready for the Chinese Student Association karaoke night. Because of poor planning, we were not able to borrow speaker, projector and a microphone for the karaoke. But JIMMY came to the rescue! I knew a resident that had huge speakers and a few other disc jockey equipments so I asked him if I can borrow them. Fortunately, he came to the rescue for the event and it came out to be a success. Over 30 students turned out and we all sang. The first prize was $100!

Thursday is dooms day because I had to register for classes in the morning and then I had a presentation about transition to a market economy. I also had a meeting after class at 7:30pm to discuss about Summit issues.

Spending time with my friends and family is the best way to end off a hard week. I woke up at 9:30am to play tennis with a few friends until the afternoon. Then I went home and cleaned the garage with my little brother. Afterwards, I threw the football around with my little brother and waited for my mother to come home to eat dinner.  I also fixed up a bracelet that my grandmother left for me to remember her by. She was Buddhist and the beads have characters that are supposed to protect the wearer.
